Characterization - UV-Vis Spectroscopy

UV-Vis Spectroscopy

UV-Vis spectroscopy is routinely used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different components, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules. It uses light in the visible and adjacent near-UV and near-infrared ranges. Spectroscopic analysis is commonly carried out in solutions but solids and gases may also be studied. Spectrophotometers were originally developed for the absorption measurement of liquid samples. However, development of high-precision, high-energy spectrophotometers allowed measurements in reflection and absorption on solid samples, including semiconductors, films, glass, and absorbing materials. UV-Vis spectroscopy is widely applied in the field of life sciences offering high-sensitivity and high-speed measurement of ultra-trace samples.
